Compliments

Dear Sir,
Mr T.G.

I am writing to express my thanks for the care I received whilst having my prostate removed
last week. From my initial consultation with you to my discharge from Clarke Ward, I was
extremely impressed with the professionalism and kindness shown me by all staff. At a time
when the NHS is receiving media criticism, I am pleased to say that I have nothing but praise
and would like you to pass on my gratitude to the entire team. From our first meeting
together I felt certain that I was in extremely safe hands — even if robotic — your
explanations helped me to be confident of the decision I was making. The speed at which I
was dealt with meant that the entire process from my blood test to the first check-up, biopsy,
MRI scan, Diagnosis, and surgical procedure has taken just seven weeks. There are not
words I can find to express how impressed I am with the NHS.The follow up support from
the Clinical Nurse Specialists, District Nursing Team, and the Incontinence Nurse plus the
explanatory literature supplied are excellent and reassuring. I will be writing a separate letter
to the Sister at Clarke Ward to thank her and her staff for the attention and treatment given to
me.

Mr J.E.

We hear so many negative reports about the treatment received from the National Health Service. I feel I need to write to express my thanks and gratitude regarding the excellent treatment that I have received from the Urology Department ant Kent and Canterbury Hospital.

My G.P. noticed an increase in my PSA blood count and suggested a prostate examination. This investigation was invasive but carried out in a sympathetic and understanding manner. When the biopsy proved positive I was given advice by Mr. Evans and Mr. Eddy. It was decided that the Da Vinci robot prostatectomy was most suitable for me and was carried out by Mr Eddy and his team.

From the diagnosis of prostate cancer every patient is given the telephone numbers of the clinical nurse specialists Ben Heamden and Paula Simpson should you need to be reassured about any problem or worry that you might have. Patients are invited to attend a forum before the operation to hear more about the procedure and the problems that might occur. We were invited to air any of our worries and concerns and put questions to the team and a previous patient which proved to be very reassuring.

After the operation the same care and consideration continues. Mr. Eddy rang my wife immediately the operation was over and visited me in hospital the next morning. Patients are able to go home the next day with the knowledge that you have a support team at the end of a telephone. With a prostatectomy there are regularly problems with incontinence and penile dysfunction. Mr Eddy and his support staff again approached these problems in a delicate and understanding way. Since my operation I have had regular meetings with Mr. Eddy, urology nurses, physiotherapists and the Wendy Muir clinic.

Speaking to other patients who have had the Da Vinci procedure they all praise the 'whole' approach to curing the problems of prostate cancer. I believe that Kent and Canterbury Hospital is now a centre of excellence for the treatment of prostate cancer using the Da Vinci procedure. I would be grateful if you would pass on my sincere thanks to Mr. Eddy, his team and all the support staff for their excellent work.

I am compelled to write this letter of gratitude and complete satisfaction in my successful

Prostatectomy Robotic operation, carried out, on the 30 September by Mr Eddy and his team Paula and Ben, together with the very professional Sisters and Nurses including ancillary Nurses on Clarke ward. Mr Eddy took time out to check my progress and belay any concerns, Paula was at the end of the phone each time I had a concern, or, for advice and nothing was too small for an acceptable answer. The forum prior to my operation was first rate and answered many if not all the worrying questions from my wife and I to the fears as one have with this illness, so thank you so much for a caring and helpful medical team. Prior to my operation all appointment before and after were confirmed by letter which was very reassuring and first rate organisation from you staff, this includes Jackie Blanchard from bladder and bowl team Tracy Miles from the physiotherapy team. It is all to often only the bad news that reaches the public regarding Hospitals, because it sells newspapers, but an excellent professional operation like this never does, that's why I feel I must congratulate you for most excellent and carrying staff.

Please pass on my gratitude to all under your wing especially Mr Eddy.

Mr T B

Dear Sirs,

I want to thank all people who helped me during the difficult time I had undergone before and after the operation of radical prostatectomy at your hospital in Canterbury in January this year. I am particularly grateful to Mr. Eddy, Mr. Moscowits and all the surgical team for this complicated operation.

I would like also to thank Paula Simpson, Ben Hearnden and all other nurses and staff at Mr. Eddy's clinic, Clarke's ward and Urology department. I want to mention dedication of day and night nurses, kindness of the staff who were delivering meals and drinks and encouragement of Steve who brought me to the operational theatre. Sorry for not remembering all names. Everybody demonstrated total commitment into caring for me and was very friendly, supportive and helpful.

Mr I.S.

Robotic Assisted Prostatectomy

In March 2010, I was diagnosed with Gleason 3+3=6 Prostate Cancer, whilst under the jurisdiction of Dorchester Hospital in Dorset. Since moving to Ramsgate, in the summer of 2010, I have been under the continuing care of Mr. Ben Eddy and his team. Following a "watch and wait" procedure and a further biopsy, just before Christmas 2010, resulting in a Gleason 3+4=7 assessment, I was given the opportunity to have a Prostatectomy using the newly acquired da Vinci Robotic facility.

With the previous options having been radical surgery or radiation, neither of which I was happy to undertake; principally because of the perceived effects on continence and sexual function, I felt a great weight had been lifted when the details of the daVinci surgery were fully explained.

Having committed to this, I have to say I have been very impressed with the way the support system has kicked into action; whether it be a visiting nurse explaining post-operative procedures, the pre-assessment procedure and the excellent lecture given by Ben Hearnden and his colleagues. This, in particular, gave me the confidence to proceed, particularly hearing the testimony of a gentleman who had undergone the operation a year earlier.

From Mr. Eddy, and the anaesthetists to all the nurses and support staff during my stay in Canterbury hospital, all were highly professional and respectful of my vulnerability and dignity.

Even now, three weeks later, I am still being followed up by support staff and anticipating a physiotherapy session this coming week.

My recovery has been rapid and without complications with only some minor inconveniences.

I would like to thank you and the governing body for your foresight and courage to invest in the daVinci system, which must surely be paying its way in terms of fast and effective surgery. resulting in happy patients and reduced costs.

Finally, I was impressed with the rolling programme of internal decor, specifically within the Urology department, where the ambiance of co-ordinating paint and fabrics made a great difference to one's well-being.

Mr N.C.

Urology Dept. at the Kent & Canterbury Hospital.

It has been my good fortune to have been in the care of the Urology Dept. at the Kent

& Canterbury Hospital since first being diagnosed with prostrate cancer in June 2010. The continuous monitoring of my condition eventually led to the surgical removal of my prostate gland using the DaVinci Robotic surgery equipment on the January 2012.

This operation has been a complete success as far as I am concerned and I can only express my deepest thanks to Mr Eddy and his team for their professionalism, skill and dedication to patient care. This also applies to the team in Clarke Ward and everyone else involved in my post operation recovery.

The speed of my recovery, I was able to go home 24hrs after the operation, is by no small means due to the surgical team having the DaVinci equipment at their disposal. Four weeks post operation I was able to do all the things that I was doing preoperation and now seven weeks on I only have slight incontinence and even that is improving.

I urge you to preserve and protect the skills and equipment available at the Urology Dept. so that others following in my wake may experience the same benefits also. The medical treatment and care that I have received has been nothing short of marvellous.

Mr K.P.

Dear Sir

I would like to compliment the Kent and Canterbury Hospital for the excellent treatment I received during the period of my Robotic Radical Prostatectomy operation. Having elected to have the operation I attended the teach-in/tutorial led by Paula which was excellent, two hours of professional information and advice which made me feel confident about the procedure. The operation by Mr Eddy went when they came to take out the drain bag next morning. I went home a day later and the senior District Nurse from my local GP surgery arrived at 9-30 am to check on my bag which had been left in, and my dressings, the bag and dressings were removed by the nurses team a few days later.

Visits from Tony Brooks the Bowel and Bladder Specialist along with visits arranged to see the Specialist Urogynae Physiotherapist greatly helped with my incontinence which is now much improved.I have had the best treatment possible by all the team from Mr Eddy and all the nurses and staff and all the follow on services, who have all acted in a friendly professional way which made me feel that they really cared about me, which I am sure they did.

Your faithfully

Mr R.E.

On September 24th. I underwent a Robotic Assisted Laparoscopic Prostatectomy at Kent and Canterbury hospital with the Da Vinci equipment. The following day (Tuesday 25th) I was able to return home, and with the support of the Community Nurses I made a very swift recovery and was able to return to work, travelling to my business at Catford a week later. Despite being a major procedure, I had no limiting aftermath from the operation at all, and I was pleased not to have to spend a long period as an in-patient at the hospital, as was the norm before the arrival of the Da Vinci equipment. I consider that we are very fortunate to have this equipment at Canterbury, which confirms the hospital's position as a centre of excellence for Medicine in Kent.

Mr. R.S.

Dear Sir

I feel I should write to let you know of the excellent treatment and care that I received when I had my prostate removed by the Da Vinci method, at the Kent & Canterbury hospital.

I am initially grateful to my GP, Dr Gupta, for acting upon my PSA test that was only slightly raised but he wanted to ensure that there was not a problem.

I was then referred to Mr Eddy who explained the options for me and I decided that I would prefer to have my prostate removed.

I was invited to attend a forum at the K & C hospital Library & Training Centre, along with my wife, which went into enough detail as to what the procedure involved, and what was likely to occur afterwards, so that I was fully informed and that put my mind at rest and allayed any fears that I may have had. It also allayed the fears of my wife. We both feel that it was well worth while to attend and have the Da Vinci system explained to us fully, but also in a language that we could understand.

On arrival at Clark ward, we were made welcome, I was allocated a bed and almost immediately the preparations for my operation began. This was done in a friendly and professional manner which helped to put my mind at ease regarding the operation. The nurses seemed to be very busy but, from what I observed, they still had time to deal with patients' needs, urgent or otherwise, which showed me that there are still nurses that consider CARE and nursing are both a necessary part of the job.

The anaesthetist visited me to explain what was he was going to do and ensure it was safe for me to have the anaesthetic. Not long after he left, Mr Eddy came to visit me to make sure that I had no further questions regarding the procedure and what it entailed. He was quietly confident and assuring which helped to put our minds at ease.

Following the operation, he returned to see me in the evening, as did the anaesthetist, and explained that the operation went well, and to see how I was. He also made time to come to see me the following morning to make sure all was well with me. He again came at lunchtime to check that I was ok and informed the ward sister that I could be discharged that day.

The caring, nursing and surgery has made me see your hospital in a new light and I cannot find fault in my treatment there. A friend of mine had his prostate removed at the K & C about 5 years ago and, although it all went well for him and he had no complaints about the care, he was surprised how quick my recovery was and how little pain I had. The pain felt like I had pulled a muscle in my stomach and was only felt when I got up from sitting. Other than that I had only slight discomfort, which in my mind was the best thing about the Da Vinci method of carrying out the operation.

The speed and treatment from the 1st PSA test by Dr Gupta to seeing the Urology specialists, followed by the operation, was extremely quick and would be equal or better than t would expect if I was having it done privately.

I would recommend this operation to anybody who needed it, and to see Mr Eddy and the Kent and Canterbury Hospital if they want the best care and attention and success before, during and after the operation. Full marks to you and Mr Eddy for having the foresight to obtain the Da Vinci robot and making patients life better and easier, and recovery time quicker, therefore saving money on time in hospital beds and also a speedier return to work.

Well done and thank you.

Yours faithfully

Mr A.F.

Mr Ben Eddy carried out this procedure on me at the Kent & Canterbury Hospital in early July.

I just want to take this opportunity to bring to your attention just how grateful for and impressed I have been with my pre and post-operative treatment by Mr Eddy's surgical team and the nurses at the Kent & Canterbury and to record my sincere thanks for being given access to the Da Vinci robot.

Following my diagnosis and prior to my operation, I had been given a realistic appraisal of my condition and the potential side-effects of the surgery. I also realised my recovery time would be significantly reduced as a result of the robot being used.

I am delighted to advise you that I made a rapid and complete recovery from the surgery, with none of the subsequent incontinence issues usually associated with this procedure and I returned to my job after just a week's recovery at home in fact, I am something of a keen runner and 10 days after the operation, I was able to do 3x3m runs on consecutive days.

Since then, I have gone from strength to strength and during a recent holiday, was managing to complete walking / running combinations in excess of 10 miles per day. On top of this, my histology results have showed my cancer was contained within the gland and my first post-operative PSA test was zero — so I have had the best possible outcomes with minimal side-effects.

I am very aware that in addition to the skill of Mr Eddy and his team, I owe a considerable part of my quick recovery to the use of the Da Vinci robot and I wish to record my thanks that your hospital has made this superb piece of equipment available to the people of East Kent and that patients have every prospect of making a rapid recovery and a return to "normality" far quicker than they would otherwise achieve following open surgery.

Yours faithfully

Dear Ben

This is to formally thank you for the excellent care you provided me during my recent illness. I know it is a difficult situation when one is asked to look after a consultant colleague and the way you treated me was exemplary. On that Tuesday when on my wife's insistence I decided to seek professional advice from you the way you went out of your way to help me will never be forgotten. It was kind and touching the way you reassured me from your own personal experience.

I had offers of having my treatment in a teaching hospital in London or at least to have it at the local independent hospital but I opted to have it in our hospital mainly due to the trust and confidence I had in the abilities of my colleagues who were responsible for my care. I have had excellent treatment and a fabulous result — I have had no complications, very little post-op pain and was able to return to work in less than 2 weeks after my operation.

I have been told and have come to believe that when friends and colleagues bring their near and dear to you for diagnosis & treatment that it is a sign of respect for your professional abilities and on this note I think the best compliment I can pay you as a consultant colleague is to offer my self to be your patient. Although we meet professionally only rarely during treatment of various difficult and complicated patients that have come our way I have the utmost respect for your abilities and now as an important member of the team who helped in my treatment I owe you a debt of gratitude which I will never forget. Thank you for all your help and may you be blessed with all you wish for and more.

Best regards,

Dear Sir,

I write to express my gratitude for the excellent treatment and care given by the medical and nursing staff of Kent and Canterbury hospital with whom I have come into contact as a patient. Most recently I commend Mr Ben Eddy who I thank most specially, whose dedication, surgical skills and expertise are a credit to the Trust; his team, Karen Savage, and the medical and nursing staff of Clarke and Marlowe wards; in previous admissions Mr William Choi and his team as well the Anaesthetists who have been involved in the numerous procedures I have had over the past four years.

I have always been met with kindness and courtesy and given time and space to take in and participate in, discussions concerning my medical condition. My experiences as an inpatient (of which there have been 15 and counting) lead me to the view that you should rightly be proud to lead such a consistently high level of commitment and professionalism amongst your staff.

Naturally it goes without saying this is also to be seen amongst the staff of the Renal Department where I continue to have excellent care and attention, especially mentioning Dr. Bernhard Klebe and the staff of the WHH Renal Satellite Unit.

As you are aware I had a radical prostatectomy on 30 January this year and that you gave me the all clear on 12 March.

I wanted to express my humble gratitude for your professionalism, support, sensitivity, accessibility and optimism. I am most touched by everything you and your special team did on my behalf. Thank you so very much. It is obvious that it is a superb team effort.

In the light of bad news within the NHS elsewhere I feel that I need to redress the balance somewhat. Throughout my treatment the communication and care has been magnificent.

The process from start to finish has been incredibly 'joined up'. One cannot just look at the operation in isolation, but at the whole infrastructure of tests and meetings with various specialists that have led me to this point. I gather that you have co-ordinated this amazing system. You deserve praise indeed for this consideration of your patients in the round. I have felt supported by the whole process. Very much so.

I have written to the Chief Executive and others along these same lines for I feel that you and your team deserve such recognition.

I am sure you follow the general drift of this letter, even if I lack the words to adequately express my gratitude for your professionalism and commitment. Thank you for everything you have done,

Yours sincerely,

Dear Mr Eddy,

I feel very privileged to have been seen by you and your wonderful team.

You performed my operation last Friday afternoon and I was discharged from Hospital the following day after spending the night in ICU as my sleep apnoea was a concern.

I was back on my feet on Saturday and my recovery is progressing very well in spite of a few times when blood clots have blocked the catheter causing urine to bypass. This created a bit of anxiety but fortunately cleared itself in the end.

When I arrived home On Saturday at 8.00pm the phone was ringing as I walked in and it was the Community Nurse telling me to phone her at any time if I needed help.

On Monday the District Nurse came at 9.00am and changed all the dressings and all is healing very well.

I am sincerely grateful to you and have a tremendous sense of relief knowing that the diseased prostate has been removed and, after the catheter is taken out on the October, I then await the result of further checks being done.

I will be glad to answer any questions you may have which could help others undergoing this brilliant operation.

Please convey my sincere thanks to all the Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurses of the Urology Department, Kent and Canterbury Hospital for their very high standard of care, especially the lovely nurse who gently removed my drain bag.

Dear Sir,

I am writing to you to express my appreciation and sincere thanks for the treatment I recently received from the Urology Department at KCH. At a time when the NHS is undergoing major change and is the target of much criticism, it is refreshing to be able to praise a job well done.

From the time my GP referred me to the busy urology clinic f was afforded nothing but politeness and concern for my wellbeing. In particular Clinical Nurse Specialists Ben Hearnden and Paula Simpson answered rhy mahy questions and provided support when it was needed. The staff in Clarke ward also helped me through my first hospitalization with care and good humour.

My thanks must also go to Mr Eddy and his team who (with a little help from Da Vinci!) performed an operation which has removed the threat of cancer spreading from my prostate. In the current climate I understand how difficult it must be to justify the high cost of this technology but from a patient perspective the whole process has been a great success.

Yours faithfully,

Dear Sir, would like to say a huge thank you for the fantastic help the hospital has given me.

I have been so impressed by the professional way in which my case was handled. First by Mr Evens who diligently kept a watch on my progressive prostate problems. He monitored this most carefully, giving appropriate advice along the way, finally telling me that it was time for me to make a decision as to ongoing treatment. Giving me the chance to research the various options. I researched this most diligently, finally deciding that I would probably be best suited by having robotic surgery, as I have other problems that would make other options difficult. Mr Even referred me to Mr Ben Eddy.

Mr Eddy again was incredibly professional, informing me and instructing me regarding every last detail of the procedure, and all implications, He made it very clear that I would have to follow his direction by attending a pre-op meeting and doing various exercises and keep an eye on dietary benefits etc, all of which I followed most carefully.

The result is that I am apparently free from cancer and have a good chance of life. I would also like to thank Mr Babbin John who helped Mr Eddy with various matters. His interest in patient well being is outstanding. Or course there is also the nursing staff, without whom no such satisfaction would be possible.

As I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses, and there was an issue of the possible requirement of a blood transfusion, I have to again thank the anaesthetists as well as Mr Eddy for taking such care to ensure that my conscience would not be offended. I am extremely appreciative for this.

Dear Sir/Madam,

In May of this year I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and recommended for a Radical Robotic Prostatectomy. I am to let you know that the support, care, and treatment I have received at your hospital since that diagnosis have been superb both before and after surgery. At no stage have I been unsure about what is to happen to me. The seminar held by Ben and Paula of the Prostate support team put my mind to rest on a lot of issues and was particularly helpful to my wife and I. Although everyone I have come into contact with has been kind, considerate, and efficient particular praise must go to two members of your staff. Firstly the surgeon Mr Eddy. He rang my wife as soon as the operation was finished and even came by to see me in the ward on his way home. I saw him a total of 4 times on the next day and I found that level of service and dedication refreshing. Secondly a nurse on my Ward (Clarke June 15th/16th) by the name of Brenda. I think she may have been a staff nurse and she was Irish. Once again, she was very attentive, kind, and efficient.

Dear Sir;

We are writing to congratulate the whole Urology team under Mr Ben Eddy for the wonderful treatment received by Philip following his diagnosis of Prostate cancer. Once we were in the system we were dealt with swiftly and with great skill making this worrying time so much easier to go through. We have nothing but admiration for the treatment using the Da Vinci Robot and have been amazed at the fast and trouble-free recovery that has followed. Well done to all those involved during my stay on 5/6th May this year. Mr Ben Eddy was very kind and caring; his gentle nature put me at ease. Staffs working on Clarke Ward were very kind and also the follow-up people at home. We were very very happy with the care received throughout. Please convey our thanks to all involved especially Mr Ben Eddy. May God Bless You All.

On the 26th July I underwent a robotic prostatectomy and I am writing to express my sincere thanks for the way the whole process has been handled by your Urology Department, from the initial biopsy and diagnosis through to the after care which is still ongoing.

I was kept informed at even,' stage and found the different functions well coordinated with each other. I appreciated the personal contact with the Prostate Specialist Nurses and other staff, including those of Clarke Ward, where I was treated with much care and consideration.

I consider my seif most fortunate to have had access to the latest surgical procedures and the skill and efficiency of Mr Eddy and his team.

Yours Faithfully Mr J.W.

Dear Mr Eddy,

Thank you very much for carrying out on the 3rd of October such a great act of surgery on my late but not lamented (given the circumstances!) prostate.

At all times, our personal involvement with you has been excellent. You explained things carefully along with pictures and made sure we understood them. Your visits to me pre and post op were carried out in the same compassionate, and assuring manner.

The staff who prepared me for the anaesthetic were also very kind and reassuring in the way they carried out their duties — informing me of the various procedures that they felt I should know about for my own peace of mind.

A small point of interest. When I returned home and was trying to organise the 'mountain' of items I had been given on discharge I suddenly started to weep uncontrollably because I felt the (simple) task was too much for me and I couldn't cope. I called my wife and between us, the matter was addressed and dealt with.

A check on the 'net revealed it as possible 'Post Operative Depression'. At the time, my wife thought it was akin to 'Post Natal Depression'. The article also felt that patients were not sufficiently briefed before or after having gone through a general anaesthetic.

Naturally I can't comment on the latter and neither is this the place for it. I can only say that for my part, I had no knowledge of such a reaction so when it took place, I did not know why. This of course just added to the problem and intensified it.

Thank you once again for both yours and the hospital's excellent service in all respects and all departments. It has been so much appreciated, making the whole event less fearful.

Kind regards and best wishes from both me and my wife.

Mr L.W.

Dear Mr.Eddy,

Words alone will never be able to express the level of gratitude that I owe to you and your team in relation to my recent urology surgery. It is with sincere and deepest heartfelt thanks that I write to tell you how much I appreciate your professional skills in being able to change my health issues. It has now been a week since my surgery and the quality of my life has been improved to a level beyond comprehension.

I must also say that your taking time out to come and see me prior to surgery was totally unexpected and that the reassurance it provided brought patient care to a new height for me.

May I also at this time ask if you would be good enough to pass on my sincere thanks to the doctor and consultant anaesthetist who, like you, came to see me prior to surgery? I feel this was above and beyond the call of duty by you both. To you, your team and the nursing staff of Clarke Ward for the post operative care they provided I can only say thank you.

Mr G.W.

Dear Sir or Madam

Please may I steal a few moments of your time to tell you about my recent experience at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital.

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer on the 15th of August and referred to Mr B Eddy at your Hospital, from the-moment and alt throughout my robotic assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy I have been looked after in an outstanding manner by everyone I encountered before and after my operation and still continues.

Mr Eddy is extraordinary, the care and attention to detail has been unbelievable and my procedure has been a great success, the kindness from the Cancer nurses Ben and Mona is excellent and nothing is too much trouble. The pre opp forum which was hosted by Ben was priceless with every detail one could need and demonstrated in super way with humour and the attention to detail proved to be very valuable.

The Clarke ward and all the staff handed what was a very daunting time for me in a most lighthearted and caring way it's hard to describe other than professionalism and-humour— combined with great care. While I was there Mr Eddy came to by bedside to reassure me as did the anaesthetist who also came the next day to see how I was doing. The ward sisters kept a very cool head although one can see the pressure they are under especially when they are trying to discharge patients.

I cannot thank you all enough, the NHS is number 1 as far as I am concerned.

Thanking you Mr R.C.

Dear Sir

I am writing to congratulate you about the very positive experience that I have had in the last few months at The Kent & Canterbury Hospital, regarding treatment for prostate cancer.

Firstly the diagnosis was very rapid. My PSA levels had been closely monitored since 2007 as we travelled the world for professional reasons. We moved to Kent last year and following a PSA test on 9 May this year which showed a further raised level, I had an MRI (8 June), and a Biopsy (17 June), I received the results on 5 July and, having opted for radical surgery, I was in theatre on 22 July under Mr Ben Eddy. I was pleasantly surprised to be walking out of the hospital with my wife just 24 hours after coming out of surgery. The surgery was successful and my recovery has been good. I cannot praise highly enough the whole team and set-up at the K&C. Mr Eddy was wonderfully calming as he explained the procedure. The specialist urology nurses Ben Hearndon and Morna Jones were very supportive both before and after the operation, hosting a very worthwhile preoperative information afternoon. I would also like to mention for high praise all the staff on Clarke Ward and the Urology outpatients department. The much-maligned NHS deserves credit where it is due, and I hope that you will pass on my thanks to all those concerned.

Yours faithfully. Mr P.H.

I have today had my 12-month appointment with Mr B Eddy, Consultant Urological Surgeon, after having had a robotic assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy in September 2015 at Kent and Canterbury Hospital. I was very pleased and grateful to hear that my PSA is zero and that Mr Eddy does not expect my cancer to return.

I am writing to you as Chief Executive today to express my admiration and thanks to Mr Eddy and his team in Urology. I have been treated exceptionally well by everyone along the whole course of my journey, from pre-admission to admission to Clarke Ward, surgery via the 'Da Vinci' robot, after care and subsequent post-operative checks. At all stages of my journey I have been treated with respect and support and, of course, the highest standards of professional medical treatment. My initial worries about having robotic surgery were allayed by Mr Eddy who must be one of the most competent surgeons to use this technique. You are very lucky to have him as a member of the Trust and the 'Da Vinci' machine with which he works. I understand that the 'Da Vinci' machine is a very expensive piece of equipment but, as a recipient of the treatment, I can testify to its amazing benefits. My prostrate was removed through keyhole surgery, which meant that my stay in hospital was short. My scars have healed really well and now, at 12-months after my operation, I have never felt better. I will forever be indebted to Mr Eddy and all who work in the Urology department at Kent and Canterbury Hospital.

Yours sincerely Mr. T.A.
